The University of the Philippines Office for Athletics and Sports Development (OASD) and the UP Golf Varsity Team (GVT) have issued an official statement regarding an incident involving one of the team’s student-athletes during a golf tournament held at Mimosa Plus Golf Course in Clark, Pampanga last week.
The incident involved the submission of an incorrect score by a UP Golf student-athlete.
The university said it conducted its own investigation into the matter, and the student-athlete has been placed under indefinite suspension while due process runs its course.
The official statement from UP OASD and UP Golf GVT reads:
“UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development (OASD) and UP Golf Varsity Team (GVT) are aware of the incident involving one of our student-athletes during a golf tournament a week ago.
We have already done our own investigation into the matter, and said student-athlete has been put under indefinite suspension as due process runs its course.
Rest assured UP OASD and UP GVT are ever committed to the University’s core values of honor, excellence, and service.”
The UP Golf program emphasized that the incident is being taken seriously and that the appropriate institutional process is being followed. The program remains committed to upholding the highest standards of honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, and accountability, while developing student-athletes who are expected to represent the University with character both on and off the golf course.
The university has not identified the student-athlete involved.
The matter remains subject to the university’s due process procedures.
